Old Age - a poem

Old Age

Oh, with trembling hands, I feel the cane a shaking
With some difficulty, I can feel my feet struggle when I am walking
Yet, without my love for life, I would not even survive
This body of mine, getting old and delicate, has done its time

The time when I was young is still fresh in my mind
The way I liked to dance and listen to the music, so long ago
And remember how it has soothed my soul, my heart and my rhythms of life
And praying real hard, another decade I shall survive

My skin no long smooth, it is becoming some found some wrinkle
But up above I can still see the Milky Way and all the bright stars twinkle
My eyes do suffer a little bit at night, as they are worn and fading
But during the day, my sunlight is still bright, making me smile
So I feel my body ache, my body is shaking as I walk each precious mile

Each mile I take with each step it takes, I risk another bone breaking
And in the end, my life has been complete and none of it was faking
No matter how much pain I can bear, in the end I cannot let it be defeat
And if the gates of heaven should open and start calling my name
I know I can get there without struggling or falling, even without my cane

For my ears will always listen for the trumpet’s sound
And my heart will know it is the nature of the call that is profound
A chance for heaven, a chance for bliss, there is no way, I am taking the chance to miss
That heavenly journey up into the sky, never questioning my time, never asking why
I shall take a deep breath, my heart will beat once more, and then, I sleep and die
And make me a promise, my dear family and friends, for me, you will not cry
